Part pompous parade, part intricate lecture, part stand-off. Come and witness a 18-strong line of men sing about what it takes to build a man. From concrete to power tools, recipes to beards and perhaps back to tools again. With humour mixed with poignancy, subtle theatre, and some fine strong harmonies, it’s time to extend your expectations of a male choir. Ancient Georgian folksongs, curious Stephen Taberner originals and their unexpected versions of well-known favourites are all found in the repertoire. Festival favourites in WA for more than a decade, and after two successful seasons at FRINGE WORLD 2016 & 2017, the Men are back to entertain you, black and be-hatted, with a new manbag full of goodies.

Please note this show has men in a range of black outfits (not entirely matching) and hats, singing together.

The Men of the West will stretch your expectations of a men’s choral group. Let this black, be-hatted behemoth take you on an unexpected journey to attempt to decipher the role of men in our ever-changing world.

Rising from the ashes of the much-acclaimed Spooky Men of the West, the Men will deliver a variety of a cappella songs ranging from the haunting beauty of ancient Georgian harmonies, curious originals and their own versions of well-known favourites.

Returning to Fringe World after great success in 2016, the Men have been regulars at the Fairbridge Festival and the Dunsborough Songfest over the past decade.

‘Gentle and sad, even sweet, but also powerful and unmistakably male’.

‘Highly commended’ award Adelaide Fringe 2014’.

WARNING: may contain traces of subtle theatre, facial hair and humorous asides.

We present for your delight and puzzlement, Men of the West. Led by director Ryan Morrison, these men have been refining their subtle theatre of pointless grandeur over the past decade, being regulars at the Fairbridge Festival and the Dunsborough Songfest.  And picked up a Highly Commended Award at the Adelaide Fringe in 2014.

The Men will deliver a variety of a Capella songs ranging from the haunting beauty of ancient Georgian harmonies to original songs of the quotidian rituals and trials of being a man in today’s world. In so doing, the Men will illuminate for you The Secrets of Mansinging.

They will extend your expectations of a men’s choral group. Welcome to the Men of the West: ‘gentle and sad, even sweet, but also powerful and unmistakably male’.

It is believed that this be-hatted, behemoth of bearded individuals is suspiciously similar to a certain other outfit seen in a very successful season at Perth’s 2016 Fringe World. Who are we to say? The evolution of men is a strange and wonderful thing.
